Fabric softener is a chemical additive used to increase the softness, comfort, and glossiness of fabrics. It has high shear stability, electrolyte stability, acid-base stability, and good compatibility with anionic and cationic chemicals. It is often used in the field of textile printing and dyeing. Fabric softeners are commonly used in the post-treatment process of textile printing and dyeing fabrics. The softening and finishing process is an essential step in the production of textiles. It mainly uses fabric softeners to supplement the natural oil lost by fibers in processes such as refining and bleaching, improve the elasticity of fiber materials, and give fabrics a softer, smoother, and more comfortable feel. The softening and finishing process can also improve the shape of textiles, thereby achieving better appearance effects. Fabric softeners have a wide variety of products, which are mainly divided into two categories based on their chemical structure: long-chain fatty acids and high polymer polymers. Long chain fatty fabric softeners can be classified into four types based on their ionic properties: cationic, non-ionic, anionic, and amphoteric quaternary ammonium salt types; Polymer based fabric softeners are mainly divided into two categories based on their composition: polyethylene and organosilicon. Various types of fabric softeners have different advantages and main application areas: anionic softeners have strong thermal stability and can give fabrics good water absorption. They are mainly used in the softening and finishing process of ultra white fabrics; Cationic fabric softeners are resistant to high temperatures and washing, and can also impart anti-static properties to fabrics. They are mainly suitable for fabrics such as nylon, acrylic, and silk that are prone to static electricity; Non ionic softeners have good compatibility and are mainly used in combination with other types of softeners to play an auxiliary role; Amphoteric quaternary ammonium salt softeners are suitable for most fiber finishing, but they can easily cause fabric dyeing, so they are not suitable for bleached and extra white fabrics; Polyethylene softeners can enhance the wear resistance of fabrics without causing them to turn yellow, making them the preferred softener for resin fiber fabric finishing. At present, silicone softeners are a popular product in the fabric softener market. Organosilicon softeners have excellent characteristics such as non toxicity, low surface tension, good shear resistance, strong thermal stability, good hydrophilicity, and resistance to demulsification. After being treated with organosilicon softeners, fabrics have enhanced elasticity and good anti fouling and anti wrinkle properties. Organic silicon softeners are therefore favored by the textile industry, with strong market demand. |
