In the research and development test, there are many factors that affect the performance of emulsion, such as emulsification method, structure and type of emulsifier, phase volume, temperature, etc., but we found that the structure and type of emulsifier are the most influential factors. The selection of suitable emulsifier can promote the formation of emulsion, improve the stability of emulsion and control the type of emulsion (i.e. O / W or w / O). Therefore, it is very important to choose suitable emulsifier to prepare stable emulsion. Now we will discuss some problems that should be paid attention to when choosing emulsifier. 1¡¢ When the emulsifiers with strong hydrophilicity and lipophilicity are mixed, the stability of the emulsion will decrease. When two kinds of emulsifiers are used to make the mixed emulsifier, the HLB value should not be too different, generally not more than 5, otherwise the stability of the prepared emulsion will not be good. When more than two kinds of emulsifiers are used, the HLB values of the two emulsifiers may differ greatly from each other. 2¡¢ The mixed emulsifier is composed of several emulsifiers whose HLB values are 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 respectively, and the prepared emulsion is stable. 3¡¢ The amount of each component in the mixed emulsifier should be primary and secondary to ensure the type and stability of the emulsion. The water-soluble emulsifier was the main emulsifier in the preparation of O / W emulsion, and the other emulsifiers were decreased in a certain proportion on both sides of the main emulsifier according to the HLB order. When preparing w / O emulsion, oil soluble emulsifier is the main emulsifier, and the other emulsifiers also need to decrease in a certain proportion. 4¡¢ When the temperature or surfactant concentration increases, the actual HLB value of emulsifier will decrease. Therefore, when selecting emulsifier and determining the ratio, we should make sure that the total HLB value provided by emulsifier is slightly higher than that required by emulsified oil phase. 5¡¢ The dosage of emulsifier in cosmetics also needs to be studied. The concentration of emulsifier has little effect on the HLB value required for the preparation of stable emulsion. But for an emulsion, the less the emulsifier, the better the stability. The ratio of the amount of oil phase to the amount of emulsifier required is called the efficiency of the emulsifier. The higher the value is, the higher the efficiency is. Different emulsifiers have different efficiency, so the emulsifier with the highest efficiency should be selected as far as possible. |
